When and where is UTMUN 2027 taking place?

UTMUN 2027 runs from Thursday, February 11 to Sunday, February 14, 2027, at the University of Toronto’s St. George campus in the heart of downtown Toronto.

Is UTMUN exclusively for high school students?

Yes. UTMUN is organized by University of Toronto students for high school delegates. U of T students who would like to take part are warmly encouraged to apply as conference staff.

Is there a maximum delegation size?

Yes. With UTMUN’s growing popularity and a limited number of delegate spots, we cap delegations at 40 delegates per school.

What counts as a small delegation, and a large one?

For logistics and for the purpose of Delegation Award distribution, a small delegation is 15 delegates or fewer. Anything larger is considered a large delegation.

How many awards are there per committee?

Each committee presents at least four awards: one Best Delegate, one Outstanding Delegate, one to three Honourable Mentions, and one Best Position Paper. Directors may give more than one Honourable Mention depending on committee size.

A delegate can also win more than one award, for example a Best Position Paper alongside a Best Delegate, Outstanding Delegate, or Honourable Mention.

What are the criteria for winning awards?

Each committee’s Director selects the award recipients. Directors have discretion over their approach but follow a shared rubric, which generally weighs quality of contribution to debate, knowledge of the topic, adherence to the Rules of Procedure, quality of resolution and directive drafting, and composure.

Will refreshments be provided?

No. We encourage delegates to explore Toronto’s many dining options, and our Food Map is a good place to start. Reception-style food and drinks are served at the Delegate Social.

Why does UTMUN discourage pre-written resolutions?

Many conferences allow resolutions written before the event; UTMUN does not. We want delegates to negotiate and compromise in committee, and to draft resolutions only after the issues have been debated in session.

Pre-written resolutions tend to narrow debate to their own contents and limit the negotiation that makes Model UN worthwhile. We believe resolutions should emerge from formal debate, and that drafting them live leads to sharper, more genuine diplomacy.
